We were delighted to welcome speaker Alison Dorricott to our first main event held in Bath. Alison was a single Christian for many years before marrying three years ago and is one of the organisers of The French House Party, a holiday in France for single people and couples without children.

The evening, held at Hayhill Baptist Church at the top end of Bath, started with coffee and biscuits where people could mingle and chat. Kathy then started off the evening at 8 pm. by talking about K2 and introducing various strategic people. Groups were then formed to spend some time in prayer for the evening itself and other singles issues.

Alison talked first about her experiences as a single Christian. How, at times, she had found it very difficult with it being easier said than done to simply trust in God for the future. She emphasised how important it was to live in the present and not to miss out by thinking that life would not begin until you found that special person. She also pointed out that the process of finding a marriage partner could be likened to buying a new house. If you want to buy a house you don't simply sit at home and wait for God to deliver one on your doorstep! You go to the estate agents, you look on websites and you actually go and visit them. Alison met her husband on a Christian internet site and encouraged us to keep all our options open.

She then went on to introduce The French House Party. This is a week especially for singles and married couples without children to enjoy a child free zone at a resort on the Vendee coastline of France. It takes place each year on 3rd-10th September and is a great opportunity to meet people, make new friends and worship God while on holiday in a beautiful resort. There was quite a lot of interest in this event so perhaps members of K2 could arrange to go along together. If you wish to know more visit website www.springharvestholidays.com/houseparty or telephone on 0870 060 3322.

The evening finished with coffee and cakes with plenty of opportunity to chat to one another and ask Alison any questions. Some of us left feeling rather sick, having consumed a few too many cakes!

We would like to sincerely thank Alison and her husband for giving up their time to come and talk to us, it was an informative and inspiring evening. Thanks also go to Hayhill Baptist Church who offered the venue free of charge and provided all the refreshments.

Some feedback:

Thank you so much for helping to organise the 'French House party' talk last night at the Hay Hill Baptist Church. Alison Dorricott was very encouraging in her anecdotal talk and the holiday itself looks excellent.

P.S.
Alison and her husband David run a successful business through which they have kindly gave us some practical help, which we're very grateful for and it has been a real encouragement to us. Part of this has been spent on our K2 cards and we'll also be getting a banner soon for our outdoor events in the summer.
Alison was interviewed for the July 2006 issue of Christianity magazine which you can read here.
